Doris B. Dostie passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 18, 2024. She was 93. Doris was born March 29, 1931, in Bristol, Ct. Her family, originally from Quebec, Canada, returned shortly after her birth, eventually settling in Welland, Ontario. There, she met J. Rene Dostie who would become her husband and lifelong partner. As a young couple, they were extremely driven to achieve a better life. With the assistance of family and friends, Rene & Doris began building a few small homes to rent and found success. Soon, Rene, Doris, her sister Jean & her husband Armand Lessard became a team and at the urging of a cousin in Jacksonville, FL in 1958, made the move to start a whole new life.
This would be the beginning of what would, one day, be Dostie Homes & United Brothers Development. Sixty-six years later, now being run by the third generation, the Dostie family continues to build new homes, install underground utilities and develop new communities. When J. Rene passed away in 1998, the proud matriarch continued to attend quarterly company meetings with her sons and grandsons, marveling at the growth of the companies.
Doris' happiest moments were all about her family; Son Richard/Ginny (Rick, Chris & Michael), Daughter Louise (Eric, Stephanie & Francois), Son Rene (Grant, Lance, Victor & Rene), Son David/Heather (David Jr. & Derek). Her 11 grandsons and 1 granddaughter added 20 additional great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. She was a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother and was blessed to be able to spend time with each one.
We are thankful for the ninety-three years she spent on this earth. She will forever be loved and remembered in our hearts and our memories. We rejoice that she now rests in the arms of our awesome God.
Doris is survived by brothers, Lionel Boilard & Norman Boilard of Welland, Ontario, and sister Yolanda Labrie of Levis, Quebec. She was preceded in death by her parents David & Amanda Boilard, eight other siblings & her husband J. Rene Dostie.
The family would like to thank Sandra Acevedo, Denise Paschal, Barbara Nichols and Louise Mobley for the love and care they provided Doris in her waning months. Also, a very special thank you to everyone who cared for her at Community Hospice.
The family will hold a private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to North Florida School of Special Education, 223 Mill Creek Rd., Jacksonville FL 32211 or Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257
