Donnie loved the Lord and was proud to be a member of Bartram Baptist Church where he and his Wife Betty attend. Donnie and Betty just celebrated their 61st Wedding Anniversary on October 13th with some of their loving church family.
He was born in Durham, NC where he attended school and met the Love of his Life, Betty. They met in the 5th grade. Donnie and Betty graduated from High School in 1962 and married later that year. They went on to have 2 children, Lora and Jon. Donnie went on to get a job working for the IBM Corporation where he worked for 34 years. He then retired in 2002 and was able to spend more quality time with his family. Later in life he worked at Publix for a period of time. Donnie and Betty have lived in Jacksonville since moving here in 1987.
Donnie is predeceased by many beloved family members. His Grandparents Herman and Stella Byrd, Dorothy Love and Herman Britton Pope, Sr.; his beloved Mother, Clara Mae McGee and his Father, Herman Britton Pope, Jr.; and his Niece Leah Kelly VanAlstyne.
Donnie is survived by his wife Betty M. Pope and their two children, Lora Pope Andrews (husband Jim Andrews) and Jon Britton Pope (wife Laura Pope); Three grandsons, Justin Felix Andrews, Jared Michael Andrews (wife Chelsea Andrews) and Joshua Andrews; and a great-granddaughter, Piper Rae Andrews. Donnie has 7 siblings, Alan McGee (wife Melba), Tamara VanAlstyne (husband Don), Patrick Pope (wife Cathy), Michael Pope, Robert (Bobby) Pope (wife Laura), Jill Wilson (husband Phil) and David Pope (wife Alice).
A visitation for Donnie will be held on Monday, October 30, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A celebration of life will follow on Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225. A committal service will immediately follow the Funeral Ceremony on Monday, October 30, 2023 at Chapel Hills Memory Gardens, 850 St Johns Bluff Road North, Jacksonville, FL 32225.
