Donald Glen Zimmerman, 64, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Saturday, May 15 after a long illness. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, May 19 at 1:00 pm at New Center Memorial Park, Jacksonville.
Born January 7, 1957, Donald participated actively in Jacksonville Jewish Center youth programs and graduated from Samuel Wolfson High School. He attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville. For many years, he enjoyed attending services at the Center where he was a member of the Monday morning minyan group.
Donald loved his work as a salesman at Radco Distributors, a family-owned wholesale business specializing in lawn mower and small engine parts, serving retailers throughout Florida and Georgia. He was known for going above and beyond to get his customers whatever they needed. At the holidays, they warmly expressed thanks for his help and happily received his annual gift of candied pecans made by Betsy.
He also worked in sales at Sunbelt Rentals, Mark’s Power Mowers, Tucker Equipment Rentals and Sales, Bennett’s Ace Hardware, Bennett’s Power Equipment, and McStephenson’s Rental.
In 1990, he married Betsy Rosen, having been introduced by friends at the Florida Tackle and Gun Club.
Donald was passionate about water skiing, and he and Betsy often went to the club for Sunday morning breakfast before taking their 19-foot Supra ski boat out for the day. He also enjoyed playing pool and, in his later years, riding his bicycle in the neighborhood.
Donald was very close to his family and friends and cherished his special relationships with everyone. Known as a kind man who would offer help whenever he could, he regularly visited family members to check on their well-being.
He is survived by his wife Betsy; his mother Mary Beissinger; his brothers Mark (Ellen) and Robert Zimmerman; his sisters-in-law Suzanne Zimmerman, Debbie (Bob) Thomas, and Linda (Gene) Butcher; nieces and nephews Laura (Istvan) Pajor, Sarah (Ian) Driver, Casie (Jared) Davidson, Aron Zimmerman, Brian (Renee) Thomas, Mark (Christy) Thomas; and great-nieces and nephews Isaac and Albert Pajor, Berk and Scotty Davidson, and Nathan, Zachary, Alyssa, Joanna, Keira, Leigha and Annie Thomas.
