He was born in Clear Lake City, Iowa, (eight miles west of Mason City where he grew up) on September 16, 1931, to the late Ray Donald Waller and Emma Emelia (Martin) Waller. Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Bobby and Jerry, sister Beverly Rasmussen (Gene), and beloved son-in-law Jimmy Shearin, he is survived by his children Michael (Donna), Mary Shearin, Raymond (Annette), James (Bridget), Denise Rhyne (George), Edith Dix (Jim), 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren plus one on the way. Don is also survived by sister Patricia Williams of Rancho Cordova, CA and brother Ray Waller of Omaha, NE, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
After graduating high school, Don joined the United States Navy in 1950 which subsequently took him to Jacksonville, FL, where he met the love of his life Edith Clarice (Brown) Waller at Milligan’s restaurant. They were married on November 29, 1955 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who deeply loved his large growing family. He also enjoyed fishing and bowling with his family and friends.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, June 1st at 11:00am in the fellowship hall at Riverside Baptist Church, 2650 Park Street, Jacksonville, FL, with lunch immediately following. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to Community Hospice or a charity of your choice.
