Donald Alexander Thompson, aged 93, passed away on November 25, 2021. Don was born on June 3, 1928, to Sion and Maude Thompson. He served in the Army at the close or World War II, stationed in Japan. After his return, he graduated from the University of Florida where he was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was retired from the Florida Department of Corrections Division of Parole and Probation.
During his many years as a member of the Resurrection Catholic Church, Don was involved in the Men’s Group, the Society of St. Vincent DePaul and served as an usher. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion and was a volunteer at Arlington Community Services for over twenty years. Don was especially proud of his work with the Florida Anthropological Society which was instrumental in the reconstruction of Mount Royal Indian Mound in Welaka which is now a state historical site.
He is survived by his wife Joanne; son Donald Michael Thompson (Ann); daughter Mary Helen Elliott (Michael); grandchildren Michael Sion and Mary Kathleen Thompson, Caitlin Matthews (Mason), Caroline and Christian Elliot (Merianna); and great grandchildren Maci and Cason Matthews. He was predeceased by his parents, sister and five brothers.
Services will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church, 3383 North University Blvd, Jacksonville Florida on December 16th, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
