Donald E. Newman

Donald E. Newman, 84, passed away on February 5, 2014. He was born in Indianapolis, IN to the late William F. and Lula S. Wilder Newman. Don was a professional Engineer and served on the Apollo 8 team in 1968 at Cape Canaveral. He was the Director of General Services for the Duval County School Board until he retired in 1994. A charter member of Fruit Cove Baptist Church, he was actively involved and served on several committees for the church. Don was preceded in death by his brothers, William “Ken” Newman and Earl Newman; and grandson, Ryan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Betty A. Newman; children, Cheryl L. Correll (James), Sandra K. Newman (Joseph Roberts), Michael J. Newman (Diana), Jennifer A. Puhl (George), Scott Brannon and Beth A. DelVecchio (Scott Slocum); sister-in-law, Nancy Newman; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; along with other family members and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8th in Fruit Cove Baptist Church, 501 State Road 13, St. Johns, FL 32259, followed by entombment in Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd. Jacksonville, FL 32207.
