Donald Lee Becker

Donald Lee Becker, age 88, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 in the hospital in Lake Butler, FL. He was born on May 28, 1934 in Sedalia, Missouri to Henry Addison Becker and Pearl Leona Vanover. Donald graduated from high school in Virginia and later from Jones College in Jacksonville, FL. He served two years in the Army stationed in Germany, and was a veteran.

Donald married Virginia Dare Layton in March 1955. They had three daughters and one son. Virginia passed away in November 2017.

Donald was a railroad man his whole career. First with Seaboard Airline which then merged with Atlantic Coastline to become Seaboard Coastline. After more mergers it became CSX. He worked mostly in accounting. The railroad transferred him from Virginia to Florida.

Donald has outlived most of his relatives which include his parents, his three sisters, Frances Parsons, Betty Spivey Petersen, and Shirley Strickland. Only one brother-in-law, Lawrence Strickland, remains. His son, Daniel Becker, also preceded Donald in death. He is survived by his daughters, Deborah Jarvis (Jonathan, deceased), Sharon Ann, and Cathy Odum. He has seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

A graveside service for Donald will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, FL 32218.
