Dixie was born in Gadsden, Alabama on September 6, 1944. Dixie’s family moved to Jacksonville in 1945. Dixie graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 1962, received her B.S. in Marketing from the University of Florida in 1966, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority.
After graduation Dixie began a career as a Dress Buyer for Jordan Marsh in Miami. Dixie continued her profession as a Fashion Buyer for Battelstein’s in Houston, Neiman Marcus in Dallas, and I Magnin in San Francisco. In 1977 Dixie returned to Jacksonville to be with her family and joined Furchgott’s as a buyer. Dixie later became a licensed realtor; currently employed with Norville Realty.
Dixie was predeceased by her father, Thom Hardman; her mother, Margaret Montgomery Hardman; and her brother, Dr. Alvin Abrams Hardman.
Dixie is survived by two nephews; Gregory Terrell Hardman of Los Angeles, CA and Alan Daniel Hardman of Murrieta, CA; and her niece, Julie Hardman Preston (Frederick Darragh Preston) of Richmond, VA.
Dixie was a member of Riverside Baptist Church, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Timuquana Country Club.
A celebration of Dixie’s life will be held Friday, September 23 at Riverside Baptist Church. The family will receive visitors at 1:30 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Riverside Baptist Church.
