Dennis Barry Thompson Sr

Dennis Barry Thompson, Sr., 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on January 2, 2023 in Fleming Island, Florida. Born on November 18, 1946, in Jacksonville, FL to Harry C. and Margaret J. Thompson, he was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and Valdosta State College. Dennis worked 28 years in the family-owned business, Chitty & Co., had part ownership in Turkey Creek Golf Club in Gainesville, Florida and recently retired from C.W. Ferrell Construction. He loved to play the piano for his family and friends. He was also an avid golfer and once played professionally which earned him the nickname “Pro” by all of his fellow golfing buddies.

Dennis is predeceased by his parents, brother H. Marshall and sister, Barbara N. Thompson as well as daughter, Kathryn Hay Thompson Jackson. He leaves behind daughters Julie Edgar, Christine Holechek and son, Dennis B. Thompson, Jr.; Grandchildren Matthew Tetreault, Brandon Edgar, Claire Thompson and Shelby Jackson all of Jacksonville, Florida. Dennis was a loyal friend to many in the golfing community, especially the crew known as the River Rats.

A visitation for Dennis will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens, Riverside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, followed by a service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM
