Delcie Marie (Walker) Dishman Carter, age 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2022. She was born on January 1, 1937 in Fireco, WV, before eventually settling in Jacksonville, FL to raise her family and be a light to all those around her.
She is survived by her stepson, David Carter (Stacy); her grandson, Shaun Allen Dishman (Rebecca) and family; her grandson, Jeremy Robert Potter (Chanté) and family; her granddaughter, Ashley Rashael Trail (Dusty) and family; her granddaughter, Adyna Paris (nee Sara Dishman); her grandson, Alex James Potter (Vicky); her grandson, Daniel Carter (Holly) and family; her grandson, Patrick Carter; many great-grandchildren, and other beloved family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bernard Vires Walker; her mother, Thelma Louise (Pennington) Walker; five brothers, Frederick, Darrell, Oakley Delone, George Thomas, and Leonard; one sister, Linda; her husbands, Robert Eugene Dishman and James Redd Carter Jr. (“Jack”); her twin sons, Franklin Eugene Dishman and John Allen Dishman; her daughter, Sasonya Rae (Dishman) Speed; and her son, Kenneth Jordan Dishman. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and will be deeply missed.
The daughter of a coal miner, she eventually met her first husband Robert after he served in the Air Force, and they moved to Jacksonville to start a family and raise their four children. After 33 years of marriage her first love passed away, and she later met and married her second love, Jack. Together they traveled the world and enjoyed their golden years. She was a wonderful companion, friend, and caretaker until his passing after 28 years of marriage.
While she enjoyed traveling, her true passion was her family: she fiercely loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and devoted her whole life to their well-being. Everyone that knew her loved her.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 2, 2022 at Harbor Baptist Church, 1120 Clay Street at Highway 17, Fleming Island, FL 32003. A viewing and receiving of family and friends at the church will precede the service, starting at 10:00 AM.
