grandmother, and friend to many. Debbie’s courageous battle with glioblastoma came to an end on March
20, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was 77 years old.
Debbie was born on November 25, 1946 to Haston “Joe” Maloney and Grace Tudisco (O’Keefe) in
Florence, Italy during WWII. She arrived on the USAT General Harry Taylor on July 19, 1947 in Ellis
Island, New York with her mother Grace. She then moved with her parents to Kentucky and finally settled
into Battle Creek, Michigan where she graduated from Battle Creek high school.
Debbie moved her family to Anchorage, Alaska in 1973 where she worked for the State of Alaska first as
a dispatcher for State Parks and eventually retiring after dispatching for the Alaska State Troopers in
2004.
Debbie relocated to Florida in 2017 to live closer to her mom so she could spend more time with her and
to enjoy the sunshine and warmer climate. She was happy to leave the cold Alaskan winters behind.
Debbie was passionate about family, friends, and her dogs. She loved to host bunco and other games at
her house, and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found creating
beautiful beaded bracelets, purses, necklaces, and many other projects. She will miss her greatly.
Debbie’s memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends, as her legacy as a mother,
grandmother, and friend will continue to inspire us all. In our hearts, she lives on, and we will forever
honor the legacy of a remarkable woman who made an impact in so many lives.
Debbie was predeceased by her son Thomas “Tommy” Hicks. Both of her parents Haston “Joe” Maloney
and Grace O’Keefe. She is survived by her son Timothy “Tim” Hicks, daughter and son-in-law Lori and
Michael Walker, brothers Jerry Maloney and Alfred Maloney, and many grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to either the Glioblastoma Foundation,
American Cancer Society, or the ASPCA. All causes close to Debbie’s heart.
