On August 4, 2024, David Franklin Fullwood passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 87. David was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida and attended Love Grove Elementary and Landon High School. After high school, David joined the United States Air Force and served 4 years. David left the Air Force in 1959 and started Dave’s Radio Service. He met the love of his life, Bonnie Jean Robinson, and they were married in 1960.
David joined Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department this same year and served the community of Duval County for 36 years. David worked his way through the ranks becoming a District Fire Chief. He served in this capacity for 14 years and retired in 1996.
David and Bonnie continued working Dave’s Radio Service until they expanded and purchased what we called the “Little Red House”, located at 1429 Cassat Avenue and renaming the business Westside Auto Radio. In the early 80’s, Westside Auto Radio was renamed to Quality Auto Stereo & C.B. David and Bonnie were brilliant business owners and created what is fondly known today as Rollin Sound of Jacksonville. David and Bonnie continued to grow and eventually owned 18 locations, throughout the State of Florida. After the passing of Bonnie in 1997, David continued with Quality Auto Stereo & C.B. He eventually relocated the business to 1866 Blanding Boulevard, making it a wholesale/retail warehouse, which is still in operation today. David is known as the “OG” of the music industry in Jacksonville, Florida and is fondly remembered as “The Music Man”.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Minnie Fullwood, (Jacksonville, Florida); beloved wife Bonnie Jean Robinson Fullwood (Jacksonville, Florida); son, John Steven Matthews (Jacksonville, Florida); and daughter, Rita Gaye Romine Fullwood (Jacksonville, Florida).
