Bart and his brother Tom grew up in occupied Japan where his dad was stationed following World War II. After Japan, he completed high school in Anchorage Alaska and then joined the US Navy. His Naval career took him around the world.
After 20 years of service to our country, Bart retired from the US Navy. He raised through the ranks from an E1 through Warrant Officer and retired as a Lieutenant. He proudly served on fleet ballistic submarines during the height of the cold war as a nuclear power engineer. After retiring from the Navy, he worked for Ring Power in Jacksonville Florida, Government Contractors at Mayport Naval Station and he finally retired from Epping Forest Yacht club.
Bart is survived by his wife Phyllis Bartholomew of Switzerland, Florida; his sister, Susan Hastings of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Derek Bartholomew of Houston, Texas and Keith Bartholomew of Orange Park, Florida; three daughters, Kim Baltz of Pensacola, Florida, Tracy Mayo of Jacksonville, Florida, and Kelly Griffin, of Valdosta Georgia. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren.
Bart was known as someone who could fix anything. He was quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed something. Working odd jobs was not only his skill, but his passion. He enjoyed collecting and working on vintage old GMC trucks. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
