We are who we are today because of Pastor Dan and Ms.  Esther. They embodied the love of Jesus in this world and showed us how to have a Christ centered marriage. No person has blessed us more than Dan, the list of his gifts to us together and separately is far too long to write here. His message of love will live on in us as we honor him with our ministries and works in his name. He always spoke the truth and greeted you by making you the world’s most special person with a heartfelt: “Jesus loves you...and so do I!” He will be with us always.

I have known paster dan for 10 or more years now and i have to say when i seen the news that he passed away it broke my heart. He has helped my family so much. I meet him through my grandma bobbie moore. I had a hard childhood and when i came back to live with my mom if it wasnt for him and his wife i wouldnt of had clothes. He has had a big affect on my life and my familys life as well. I loved going to church and seeing paster dan and knowing that no matter what he would be there with a smile on his face. He has talked with me about some of the stuff i went through as a child and i think him for that. It feel like i lost a family member but ik he is in good hands and he is having chruch with my grandma now and watching over all of us. Love you paster dan. Until i see u again.

I met CPO Dan Mayes when I was a young sailor and he was the Chief RP for the USS Forrestal.  I knew he was a Marine, and in the end, he was always a Marine.  In 1996 I came to serve on staff as Dr. Marks, the head of family ministries and counseling at FBC Jacksonville, where Dan and Esther served faithfully.  Dan had a passion for marriages and families and we reconnected and he and Esther went through my one year training for lay counselors.  His gift for counseling and caring for others was tremendous.  Long story short, he became a key leader in that ministry which led to his eventual ordination as a minister and his completing his masters degree in psychology.

There are hundreds  of marriages today that are together because of the love, effort, care, and dedication to helping troubled marriages get unstuck and create the love that Christ desired for those marriages.  Dan was regularly leading folks to faith in Christ as a part of that journey.  I have always been honored to have served alongside him in helping couples.  I will miss him much and there will be many who are healed today and whose marriages are strong today, because of the influence of this one faithful, loving servant of Christ Jesus.

My deepest condolences to Dan's family, and know that I am also so very brokenhearted. Dan was like a Brother to me in every sense of the word. I will greatly miss the talks we had and the "Good Morning" message's we sent each other every morning. 

Gysgt. Daniel Mayes has received transfer orders and is now guarding the gates of heaven. Thank You Brother Dan, I love you. Semper Fi Brother!

We met Dan at church and will always remember his kind and loving spirit toward others.    We'll miss Dan but we don't sorrow as those who have no hope.  We know we'll meet up again with Dan one day.

Dan will always be remembered for his smile , great Christian  attitude and caring way. He was a friend and a brother in Christ. Earth's lost is Heaven's gain. Dan will be missed by many and remembered for his encouraging attitude  and love for Jesus. He and his sweet wife Esther were a perfect fit in administering God's love. I am a bit jealous for Dan has obtained the home and peace we should all be striving for. Rest in peace my brother and keep a look out for those you left behind.


Dan was a blessing to so many. A people person with God’s hand on him.  A counselor to my family and caring friend.  Dan’s eyes would sparkle whenever he spoke about three things, God’s free gift of Salvation, his family and his favorite college football team” Alabama.”  Miss Ester, “Precious Memories, How They Linger”. 

Mr. Dan was always so kind to our family. He was a sweet Godly man who will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. He changed peoples lives which we should all strive to do. Our condolences to your family. May you find comfort and peace knowing he is in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
