Dan attended school in Ohio and in Lexington, Kentucky while working many jobs as a newspaper delivery boy, brick maker, lawn care, and at his dad's Western Auto store. Dan was a Cub/Boy Scout and enjoyed karate. He attended Nashville Auto Diesel College. He married Greta Columbia and began work at Brown Transport in Atlanta, Georgia, then transferred to Jacksonville, Florida in 1972. Dan married Cynthia Kemp in 1977 and they had a daughter, Cheryle Michelle.
Dan had many successful businesses over the years, long haul produce , dump trucks, tire recapping, truck tire sales, bail bondsman, and most recently heavy hauling, Jaguar Heavy Hauling and All Florida Trucking which Dan, Kim, and Cheryle ran together. He was well respected in the business and developed many treasured friendships through his work.
Dan met his true love Kimberly in 1989 and married her in 2001 in Las Vegas, NV. They had two children together, Katelyn Danielle born September 11, 2001 and Kendra Denae born November 3, 2003.
Dan leaves behind his wife, Kim; daughters, Cheryle Lackowski, Katelyn Lewis, and Kendra Lewis; and granddaughter, Mila Lackowski; his twin brother, David Lewis (wife Thelma); sisters, Dianna Morgan and Terri Lewis; his nephews, James Lewis (wife Chasity), Tyler Klemme, Joshua Klemme; and nieces, Cindy Brown (wife Tracy), Heather Brooks (husband Jermell), Heidi Hulick, and Tori Lewis; in addition to his in-laws, Kevin and Diane Klemme, and Ron and Leann Klemme. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Dan loved spending time with his girls and their many activities including: horseback riding, swimming, riding golf carts and four wheelers, camping in the RV/bus, going to the beach and shark tooth hunting and eating out together. The family loved to travel which included Venice Beach, New York City, Key West, Niagara Falls, Kentucky, Iowa and California most recently. He loved to attend car shows and taking his 2003 Cobra Mustang. Dan was a caring and loving father and husband. He was devoted to his work and always was there to help anyone in need. His vivacious smile warmed the hearts of everyone he met. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held from 6-8pm on Friday, November 4 at Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel, 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32207. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 5 at Hardage-Giddens Hendricks Chapel.
