CONNIE RAY COX, 79, died March 2, 2019, at a local Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. Born in Fitzgerald, Georgia on January 14, 1940, but he moved to Jacksonville, Florida with his family when he was just three or four years old. He attended local schools obtaining his GED from Robert E. Lee High before entering the
Navy. Following his naval service he began working in the natural gas industry first with Florida Gas, then Peoples Gas Systems and finally Teco Peoples Gas. He took early retirement to enjoy his family and a vivid golfing life-style which included many tournaments around the city, nearby counties, across state lines and a one-time Hawaii golfing trip. Jaguars mania hit which started a 22 year season ticketholder cycle for he and his wife, with adding a new hobby of cruising the Caribbean for the last twelve years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas A Cox and his mother, Mildred Russell Cox. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha L. (Wiggins) Cox, a brother Richard R. Cox (Anne) of Jacksonville, a sister Linda F. Tillery of Frisco, TX, five nieces and nephews [S. Troy Tillery (McKinney, TX), Allison Tillery Taylor (Rev. Brent) of Lewisville, TX, Shelley Wiggins Schaper (Mike) of Pfafftown,NC., Adam C. Wiggins (Jennifer) of Overton, TX., A. Denise Cox of Jacksonville, FL., and seven great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law Vivian Wiggins Pursell (William) of Winston-Salem, NC and Phyllis Menotte Wiggins (Burle E., deceased) of Jacksonville.
Visitation will be held at 10 AM, on Thursday, March 7th, followed by a graveside Celebration of Life service at Oaklawn Chapel & Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association (or a charity of your choice) in his memory.
