Claude Albert Vincent, 87, of Jacksonville, passed away March 20, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kelsey City, FL to Claude Joseph and Esther Gibson Vincent, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Claude began working for Southern Bell after graduating high school and was drafted into the US Army during WWII where he was stationed in India specializing in communications. After returning safely home, he continued his career at BellSouth where he was honored to have designed equipment at Bell Labs. He retired in 1987 after 46 ½ years of service.
He was a member of San Jose Baptist Church where he was an active deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Arlena McGuire Vincent; daughters, Deborah Bowser and Rebecca Dickson (Bary); sister, Esther Virginia Goodman; grandchildren, Randal L. Bryan (Christie), Elizabeth A. Dickson, Daniel J. Bowser and Jennifer L. Dickson; great grandson, Darien Cole Kincade; sister-in-law, Carolyn Burtcher; niece, Kelli Burroughs (Rodger); nephews, Timothy Burtcher and Stephen Burtcher (Diane) and many other family members and friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue with Pastor Terry Gore officiating. Burial in Oaklawn Cemetery will follow. Family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
