was born on her grandparent's farm in Statesboro, Georgia on July 26,
1927. Her parents were John Wilmer Koon and Janie Marie Brantley Koon.
She had one sister, Wilmarie Sanders and one brother, Royce Albert Koon.
All predeceased her.
Judy is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Colen Johnson and two daughters,
Sherry Roddan(Glenn) and Gail Harris. She was "Oma" to five grandchildren:
Jason Harris(Kim); Becky Geiger(Rob); David Roddan(Mark); Amy Beardsley(Brian);
Ann Wilson(Dave) and great-grand daughters Paige and Brooke Beardsley.
She also leaves several nieces and nephews.
Judy lived in Jacksonville all of her life. She graduated from Robert E Lee High School
and was a charter member of Woodstock Park United Methodist Church.
Beginning work at Southern Bell Telephone Co. as a teenager,
she retired from the company in 1978.
A true "Steel Magnolia", Judy was a great southern cook who enjoyed reading, sewing, bowling,
square dancing (Western Cutters) and traveling with husband, Colen. The family
wishes to express their deepest gratitude to her caregivers at the former All Saint's
Catholic Nursing Home and to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Hardage-Giddens Funeral
Home 729 South Edgewood Ave, Jacksonville, Florida 32205 on Saturday May
9, 2015 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Judy's name may be made
to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida 4266 Sunbeam Rd, Jacksonville,
Florida 32257.
