Cheryl Ann Davis Kilgore died quietly at home on January 10, 2017, surrounded by those who loved her, after a long, valiant struggle with breast cancer and secure in the knowledge that Clemson and Florida had been victorious. She was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to William and Elizabeth Davis on November 28, 1953.
She is survived by her husband of thirty four years, Manley (Terry) W. Kilgore II; her mother, Elizabeth Davis; her children, Traci Kilgore Towne and her husband Joe, Christopher Michael Kilgore, Kelly Hagen Sartain and her husband Mark, and Matthew Ryan Kilgore. She was the beloved Nana to Caleb Manley Towne, Logan Matthew Kilgore, Holden Paul Towne, Chandler Joseph Towne, Grant Maxwell Kilgore, Elizabeth Ann Sartain, William Rawlings Sartain, and Emily Abigail Sartain. She is also survived by her brothers, William Larry Davis and his wife Nancy, and Charles Allen Davis; her sister-in-law, Bishop Mary Virginia Taylor and her husband, Reverend Rusty Taylor. Cheryl is also survived by her aunts, Beatrice Clair of Charleston, South Carolina, Mary Moskow of Andrews, South Carolina, and numerous cousins. She was a loving aunt to Tiffani and Todd Davis of Jacksonville, Ryan Davis of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Jordan Davis of Louisville, Kentucky.
Cheryl went to nursing school on a Duval County Medical Society Scholarship and became a Registered Nurse in 1974. During her nursing career she worked at Waycross Memorial Hospital and at the Methodist Hospital of Jacksonville. In 1979 she went to work with M.W. Kilgore II, M.D., P.A., where she continued as Practice Manager until their retirement in 2010. Cheryl was a woman of faith who helped others see their way in times of despair. She was a woman of love who cared for others in times of darkness. She was a woman of generosity who gave her strength to those who needed her. She was a woman of courage who helped all who knew her to see the power of hope and love as she fought bravely for her life. She was a woman of strength who cemented her family together through life's difficult journey.
Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Boulevard, Jacksonville, Florida. The funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, January 14, at Hendricks Avenue Baptist Church, 4001 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family has requested gifts be made to the Buggy Bunch, a ministry that shares the good news of the hope that can only be found through a relationship with Jesus Christ. The Buggy Bunch is the largest Christian ministry serving moms in Florida. Kelly Sartain, Cheryl's daughter, founded the organization in 2009.
