Charles was born in Sasser, Georgia on April 5, 1926 to the Reverend Charles R. McKibben and Allie Mae McKibben. He grew up in South Georgia and he married his wife of 63 years, Catherine, on June 7, 1949. He graduated from Mercer University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry and he received his Masters Degree in Chemistry from Emory University.
Charles served our country faithfully in the 4th Infantry Division of the Army in WW2. He was awarded an American Theater Service Medal, Two Bronze Service Stars, and a World War Two Victory Medal while serving in the Rhineland and Central European Theater. Charles returned home, got his degrees, worked for Mallinckrodt, Proctor and Gamble, Glidden, Gulf South Research Institute, Betz Paper Products and Johnson and Johnson.
Charles was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church where he was a choir member for many years and taught Sunday school.
Charles is survived by his wife, Catherine; sons Bruce and his partner, Debbie, and Brian and Brian’s wife, Margaret; daughter Anne McKibben Waryold and husband Joe; grandchildren William, Chris, and Karen McKibben and Stephen and Kathy Waryold; great granddaughter Gloria McKibben; sister Edyth and her husband Cubbage Snow of Macon, Georgia; brother Malvin and his wife Sally McKibben of North Augusta, South Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
