Catherine McKee Conlon

Catherine “Cathy” McKie Conlon (Black), 93, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021. Catherine was born to Anne and Andrew Black on April 26, 1928. She was raised in Kirkconnel, Scotland and always referred to Scotland as home.

Cathy was one of six children and was very close to her brothers and sisters: Andrew, Jessie, James, Jean, and Robert. As a young girl, she had an adventurous nature and attended secretarial school. She excelled as a secretary and went on to work at Auchincruive Agricultural College.

Cathy met Frank Conlon at a dance and they were married on July 28,1956. They were very happy and were blessed with their two children, Neil and Sheena.

Since Frank’s parents and brother lived in Quincy, MA, they decided to move to the United States in July 1968. Cathy was a devoted mother and homemaker while raising her children and the family lived in Abington, Massachusetts for many years. Cathy enjoyed gardening, sewing, and getting together with their large group of Scottish friends. She always threw a great party and was an excellent hostess.

Frank and Cathy retired to Florida and eventually the whole family moved to Jacksonville in 2003 as Cathy and Frank wanted to be close to their family.

Cathy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Frank Conlon and she missed him dearly. The family is comforted by the knowledge they are now happily reunited in everlasting peace. She is survived by daughter Sheena and her husband Joseph Kennedy, son Neil Conlon, granddaughter Catherine Kennedy, and many cherished nieces and nephews in Scotland.

Cathy was a much beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin with the Rev. Jenn Arnold officiating on Saturday October 2nd at 2:00 P.M.
