Mom was born 05-25-1935 during the great depression, at six years old her father, all of her uncles, and most military aged men left for WWII, Her childhood was cut short in many ways because the women left behind had to be strong and, persevere and help with the war effort. She graduated Roosevelt High School in the Bronx NY in 1953 and soon after started nursing school in NY at Roosevelt hospital in the Bronx, but halted her career path soon after meeting my father Leonard DeRoma, they were married March 2nd 1957. They settled in Mount Vernon NY to raise a family and between 1958 and 1966 and had 5 children. She was always a devout Christian and believed with all her heart in our Lord Jesus Christ. In1969 the decided to move out of the NY area and built a house in Carmel NY. Where the family thrived as children and the benefits of country life suited her well. During this time she went back to school to finish her nursing studies. She was gainfully employed at Putnam Community Hospital in Carmel NY. On November 13th 1984 her husband passed away unexpectedly. Although her youngest child was 18 years old and no longer had children to raise the loss and memories of better times weighed on her. But as she always did she persevered, and the lessons from childhood kicked in. She sought a new start and moved to Jacksonville Florida in 1990 and continued nursing at Shands hospital, eventually transitioning to private duty nursing until retiring in 2000.
In the late 90's her faith was ever more present as she started attending the Beth Israel Messianic synagogue. She was always helpful and her lifelong passion of cooking became the glue the young congregation thrived on. Between her finger sandwiches and Matzo ball soup it was a joyousand bonding experience after services. She continued this, but eventually the rigors of such activities became too physically demanding. However, she did stay connected thru the internet and weekly podcasts.
