Carl Wayne Smith entered Heaven to be with the Lord on Father's Day, June 19, 2016. Carl was born to the late Joseph F. and Ruth Ferrell Smith on May 17, 1932 in Waverly, Georgia. He attended local schools, graduating from Camden High School May 30, 1949. Carl came to Jacksonville and was employed by the Atlantic National Bank where he worked in the Accounting Department. In 1950 he met his future wife, Betsy Stockwell, who was also employed at the Atlantic National Bank. They were married April 7, 1951. This year Carl and Betsy celebrated 65 years of marriage. In 1951 Carl was employed by Huckins Yacht Corporation as an assistant to the Comptroller. When the Korean Conflict began, as an army reservist, he was called to active duty. He served two years in Hanau, Germany in the 20th Field Artillery Battalion, 47th Infantry Division. Betsy joined him in Hanau for his two-year tour of duty. Returning to Jacksonville, Carl rejoined the staff at Huckins Yacht Corporation. He also attended evening classes at Jacksonville University graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1967. He enjoyed 25 years with Huckins. Carl and his family enjoyed boating. They cruised along the east coast of Florida going all the way to the Florida Keys. During their life together, they took many vacation travels in the United States as well as returning to Europe to visit many interesting places. In 1985 Carl purchased Pier I Marina renaming the marina Sadler Point Marina. In 1990 he decided to return to accounting as a Tax Consultant and Small Business Accountant. Carl is survived by his wife Betsy, daughter, Laura Smith (St. Augustine), son, Michael Smith (Jacksonville), sisters Edith Landis (Newman) St. Augustine and Josephine Chavez (Carlos) Philadelphia, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews. There will be a Celebration Service and reception at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer (7500 Southside Blvd. on the service road near Butler Blvd.) on July 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice or to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
