
CREAMER, Carl Edward "Ed" 91, passed away on August 23, 2012. Ed was born in Portis, Kansas on January 26, 1921. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1940 to 1960. On June 3, 1942 while attached to VP-41, Dutch Harbor, AK, Ed was part of a crew flying in a PBY-5A that was shot down over the Bering Sea. He was rescued by a Japanese cruiser and spent the rest of the war as a POW. He was a life-member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War Association, and a frequent guest speaker at POW-MIA Recognition ceremonies at local military bases. In 2011, Ed was one of the first inductees into the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Hall of Honor for his actions prior to and after his capture. This year, he will be inducted into the Association of Aviation Ordnancemen Hall of Fame. Throughout his life, Ed was an avid sportsman, golfer and bowler. He never met a stranger, just friends he hadn't yet met. Ed is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanette, son Richard (Judy), daughter Barbara Weedman, and son Roger (Karen); also by grandchildren Cassandra, Brian, Micheal, Misti, Charlotte, Clark, Kenneth, Kyle, Garrett and Jay. He is also survived by thirteen great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Forrest and Lola (Warner) and a daughter, Tona (1993). The family visitation to greet friends will be held on Monday, August 27, 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm, Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. 32205. The Graveside Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 11:00am, Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd., Jacksonville, FL. 32218. The United States Navy will honor Chief Petty Officer Creamer with full military honors for his dedication and commitment serving The United States of America. Memorials may be sent in his memory to your local Wounded Warrior Project.
