Bobby A. Mathews, age 78 passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015. A native of Hamilton County, Bobby lived most of his life in Jacksonville/Middleburg, Florida and was retired from the Department of Defense N.A.S. Jax. He served in the US Army in the 2D Battle Group 6th Infantry in Berlin Germany. He was a caring friend to everyone he knew and never seemed to meet a stranger. He was an ordained Baptist deacon and taught Sunday school for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with his grandson Daniel. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce and George Mathis. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley; daughter Kelly Spaulding(Nathan); was Poppy to his grandson, Daniel Spaulding; three sisters Frances Johnston, Imogene Clark, and Jan Tatch, brother Jimmy Matthews; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and family Friday, February 13,2015 11:00 am-12:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32205, www.townandcountryfuneralhome.com. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
