On Friday, August 23, 2019, Betty Jane Braswell Messler, wife and mother passed away, after a two-year battle from Stage IV metastatic lung cancer. She passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones. She was 74.
Betty was born May 29, 1945 in Tampa, FL to Charlie and Sybil (Stegall) Braswell. She worked for Bell South, Prudential, Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Jim Walter Homes, a business owner (KFC) and a substitute teacher.
Betty’s greatest passion was her family. She was kind to everyone she met and had a positive attitude like no other. She could always see the good in every situation, even having to face cancer twice. She was a fighter and did so to the very end. She was involved in many activities that involved her children and husband. She was the band booster president, member of the Williston Junior Women’s club, Heralds of Harmony Angel’s group, taxi to and from Junior golf tournaments and various other activities. She was not only supportive of her family but, she would be the first to step up and help where she was needed for all who was involved. She loved Barbershop singing and enjoyed taking vacations to watch the Barbershop Harmony Society district and international contests.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, Charlie, mother, Sybil and brother, Wayne. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald Messler, their three children, Lee (Donna), Sherry (Tiffany) and Susan (Robert-deceased, Jason-deceased) and her brother, Richard. She has 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Jacob, Annie, Ryan, Matthew, Jonathan, Hannah, Tyler(Samantha), Elena (Michael), Bryce and Tobias and one great-grand daughter, Khloe.
Visitation will be held from 2-3pm with a service to follow on Saturday, September 7th in Harage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin.
