Benjamin Lee North, age 69, passed away on February 5, 2015. Ben was born on June 19, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida to his parents, Charles and Christine North. He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School Class of 1963. Ben was a true patriot. In 1966 he enlisted in the United States Army and served briefly on Active Duty while training and served the remainder of his six-year enlistment with Company A, 146th Signal Battalion, Florida Army National Guard while earning the rank of Sergeant. He continued to serve Veteran’s and their families as a member of The American Legion Post 137 for more than eleven years. He especially enjoyed the time he served as a member of the Color Guard. Ben believed that hard work and dedication could get you anywhere in life. The thirty plus years he was employed with Bell South are a testament to those beliefs. He is survived by his daughter, Natalie North of Fleming Island, FL, son Aaron North of Orange Park, FL; Granddaughters Lily and Livia North; his brother, Charles Mallory North Jr. (Sonya) of Brazil, IN and sister, Jeaninne North Peckham of Orting, WA. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Christine North and his brother-in-law, Charles Peckham. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00am on Thursday, February 12th at Hardage-Giddens Town & Country Funeral Home and Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32205. The memorial service and interment will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in honor of Ben North to the American Legion Post 137.
