Anwar Naim Kassira, 82, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2017, surrounded by his family. Anwar was born in Mosul, Iraq on December 18, 1934 to Naim and Madelene(Safar) Kassira. Dr. Kassira met and married Daizy Hanna in 1965, and they later moved to Washington, DC where Dr. Kassira received a Ph.D. in Economics from Catholic University of America in 1972. Dr. Kassira was a professor at the University of Technology, the University of Baghdad, andthe Ministry of Trade in Baghdad. Dr. Kassira was the author of Principle of Economics and the founder of Al-Mansour University College, Baghdad. He was a General Manager in the Iraq Ministry of Finance. After his long and distinguished career in Iraq, Dr. Kassira moved to Jacksonville in 1998. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was a hard worker and loved being around his family. He dedicated his life to his children and did everything possible to ensure the best education for their future, loving and supporting their success in life. Dr. Kassira’s happiest days were spent with his family and he will be missed by all.
Dr. Kassira is survived by his beloved wife, Daizy, and their four children: Suzan, Deana Sussan (Aysar), Basil, and Nora Shouha (George). Dr. Kassira is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Hind, Reema, Marian, Joanne, Saif, Rami and Joseph. The second child of seven siblings, he is survived by his siblings Alya, Widad, Seren, and Ramiz and was preceded in death by his siblings Janet, Mumtaz and Edward.
