Alvin was born on September 18, 1937 in Keiser, Arkansas. Alvin was born into some of the harshest economical times of our age. He lost his mother when he was 11 years old and his father could not support him and his sister. So, after a year of great hardship he and his sister went into the Baptist orphanage in Monticello, Arkansas. He grew up there learning to run a household and working a farm. Alvin then after graduating high school met Dorothy Breckenridge and they married in 1958. He joined the navy and served for 10 years, becoming a veteran of Vietnam. While in the navy, he went and graduated from IBM School of Computing and became a computer programmer and analyst before, hoping to stay on shore duty till the navy put a computer on the USS Ranger and, he had to go to sea touring the pacific. He left the navy as a Petty Officer First Class to continue his academic career and help raise his son. He graduated with a Bachelors in Accounting and went to work for a bank in Tampa, FL with his family in tow behind him. He later would work for the First Union Bank for a couple of decades, retiring in 2001. He spent his retirement working on his home and doing everything and anything to care for his family. He was a man like any other with his faults but to those who truly knew him, for his family he would sacrifice anything for them showing nothing but words of wisdom, offers of compassion, and generosity that was endless. He will be truly missed; may he be welcomed into God's loving arms.
Alvin is survived by his wife for 62 years, Dorothy McMullin; his son Anthony R. McMullin (Susan McMullin, spouse); his sister Peggy McMullin; and grandson Sean McMullin.
A Graveside Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 2nd at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Road, Jacksonville, Florida with Pastor Gary Poplin, as Officiant.
