Allan Lewis Simmons, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015. He was born in Greensboro, North Carolina. Predeceased by his father, Charles W. Simmons; mother, Zelma M. Simmons; and brother, Charles W. Simmons, III. He is survived by his wife, Faye, of 61 years; son, Curtis (Diane); daughter, Suzan Herrmann (Butch); granddaughter, Allison McCarty (Joshua); grandson, Allan Simmons (Anna); granddaughter, Natalie Simmons; step-granddaughter, Casey Phelps and 3 beautiful great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Edenfield, and many adored and loving nieces and nephews.
Allan served 4 years in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Afterwards he worked with his father for several years before becoming a Deputy Sheriff with the Duval County Road Patrol. After consolidation he became a member of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office serving in several departments. During his last few years of employment he was a bailiff for the Duval County Court system. After retirement in April of 1989, Allan turned his focus to his wood-working hobby and helping Faye with the day-to-day activities of running the household. He deeply loved his family and loved spending time with them. So many memories of vacations with family at their mountain home in North Carolina.
Services will be held at Oaklawn Chapel and Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville, FL. Visitation will be Sunday, December 27, 2015 from 4 to 6 o’clock.
