Born in Hampton, South Carolina on December 22, 1920, Alec was the son of the late Alec and Agnes Vaughan and husband of the late Geneva Long Vaughan. Alec is survived by his wife of 39 years, Emily Sweet Vaughan, his daughter, Kathryn Collins (Wayne), son, Alec Patrick (Cheryl) and daughter, Nannette Ramey, step-daughters Patricia Torres and Marien Cox (John), grandchildren, Dwayne Collins, John Collins, Andy Collins, Timothy Vaughan, Heather Vaughan Sylvia, Kathryn Ramey Dingman and Kristin Ramey and nine great-grandchildren.
Alec was also a grandfather to Paulette Torres Crain and her sister, Pamela (Rob) Torres McLean for more than 35 years; and the great-grandfather to their children, Samuel Crain, Bennett Crain, Richard McLean and Maggie McLean. They will all miss him dearly.
Alec was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and worked at Cecil Field in civil service until his retirement. He was a devoted family man and known for his generosity to all of those he loved.
Alec loved to fix things and planted a garden each year. A member of the Hyde Park Baptist Church where he worshiped, he always was a champion for young people. He helped secure the charter for Hyde Park Masonic Lodge and was its first Master.
Services will be held on April 14, 2015 at Hibernia Baptist Church-Hyde Park Campus, 2000 Lane Ave. S at 11am. Visitation will be held one hour before the service. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jax. Fl. 32210.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the Hibernia Baptist Church - Hyde Park Campus youth fund.
