Agnes Stewart Olson

Agnes Stewart Olson was born in Savannah, GA October 12, 1929. She died in Jacksonville, FL November 10, 2012. She grew up in Savannah, raised a family in Jacksonville and retired to Waycross, Georgia. She was the youngest daughter of Pearl Baker Stewart and Oscar Eugene Stewart. In 1947 she married Arne Quentin Olson who preceded her in death in 1993. Also preceding her in death are her parents and her sisters Helen Stewart Toland, and Maudelle Stewart Dunn. She is survived by her sister "June" Stewart Saylor of Waycross; her son Stuart and wife, “Winky,” Olson of Alpharetta, Georgia; her daughter, Nancy and husband, Ric Honsa of Sanford, Florida; and daughter Cynthia and husband, Dale Misenheimer of Jacksonville, Florida; four grandchildren, Tracy Robbins of Newport News, Virginia; Konrad Olson of Alpharetta, Georgia; Chandler Honsa of Sanford, Florida; and Sadie Cutter of Lake Mary, Florida and seven great-grandchildren. As a native of Savannah, Georgia, Agnes was a loving wife to her late husband, Arne for over 45 years. Before retiring Agnes was a homemaker and worked also with the Barnett Bank and GE Company in Jacksonville, Florida and the SCL Railroad System in Miami, Florida for many years. After residing in many states including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, California and Virginia, they decided to retire and move to the Axson community of Georgia. After her husband’s death in 1993, she joined the First Baptist Church of Waycross on January 29, 1995 where she became a very active member serving as a Sunday School teacher for 4 & 5 year olds for 16 years; member of the Gleaners Sunday School Class; member of the Chancel Choir; volunteered twice a week with the church’s H.O.P.E. Ministry; Intercessory Prayer Warrior; Children’s Worship Leader; member of the Builders for Christ Mission Team; active member of the senior adult group; taught Vacation Bible School & Bible School in the Park annually; volunteered weekly at the Mary Street Mission; and served on the church’s Finance Committee. On Mother’s Day, May 12, 2002, First Baptist Church, Waycross honored Agnes with the Woman of the Year award. She was currently a member of First Baptist Jacksonville Beach, Florida after moving to Jacksonville to live with her daughter. Aside from all her church activities Agnes had many hobbies and interests including being one of George Strait’s most loyal fans. The family will observe a private grave side service at Jacksonville’s Riverside Memorial Park, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, on Wednesday at 2:00 PM. A celebration of her life will be held at First Baptist Church, Waycross, Georgia on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the sanctuary.
