Agnes L. Balsamo (nee Sherry), age 86, passed away peacefully with quiet dignity at Baptist South Hospital in St. Johns, Florida, surrounded by family. She was born on April 22, 1938, to Mary “Mae” and Alfred Sherry in West Orange, New Jersey. She was a 1956 graduate of West Orange High School, and married Ronald A. Balsamo on August 31, 1958.
She worked as a data processing supervisor at Direct Mail Service in Dover, New Jersey, from the mid – 1980s until retirement. Agnes lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with friends and family, reading novels, crocheting and knitting blankets for babies, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets. Nicknamed “Giggles” in her retirement home, she will be remembered by her contagious laugh that made all those around her smile.
She and her husband raised their four children in Rockaway Township, New Jersey. They always put family first, with community at a close second. Together they coached children’s sports and volunteered for countless school activities and class trips. Agnes also organized community craft classes and taught religious education classes at St. Clement’s Church.
She was predeceased by her parents, her older sister Mary Peer, and her older brother James Sherry. She is survived by her children, Ronald A. Balsamo, Jr. (Marlo), Nancy A. Bruen (Elliott), Margaret Anne Balsamo, and John A. Balsamo (Cheryl); grandchildren, Conor, Corina, Kylee, Jake and Melchor; great grandchildren, Hazel, Zephyr, and Blaze; and her standard poodle, Heather.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. https://www.cancer.org/donate/memorial-giving.html
