At 93 he exemplified the essence of the “greatest generation”, To state it simply, “They just don’t make Papas like him anymore”.
Papa’s devotion to God, his family, and his country defined him. A veteran of World War II, he retired from the Navy and then
accepted employment with the Department of Labor. His devotion to his wife, Alice, during their 66 years of marriage was unquestionable.
Papa is survived by his daughters; Bettye Jo (Jim) Clemons and Barbara (Bill) Wallace; grandchildren; Leslie (Sean) McAtee, Nicole (Chip) Lewis, Jason (Myla) Wallace, and Katherine (Nate) Sherman, who he loved like a granddaughter. The rewards of his longevity are his great-grandchildren; Drew and John Michael McAtee, Bauer and Walker Lewis, Nathaniel and Beatrice Sherman.
Papa’s final days were enhanced by the caring staff at Haven Hospice and Cross Care Center. We will be forever grateful for their compassion.
