William David Oursler of Atlantic Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023, surrounded by family and friends. He was born on March 15, 1931, in Memphis, TN to William Ceril and Arnett Oursler. He graduated from Landon High School in Jacksonville, FL and soon after, enlisted in the U.S. Army Special Forces Unit. He was on active duty from January 1950 to November 1952. He later served in the Army Ready Reserves for 12 years.
Upon discharge, he began a 37-year career with AT&T in Jacksonville, FL. He was relocated to Atlanta, GA where he advanced into management and was sent on multiple assignments throughout the country. Dave retired from AT&T Southern Region Headquarters office located in Atlanta, GA in 1989.
Dave had a wonderful sense of humor and was a terrific storyteller. He was an avid reader and loved books by David Baldacci, John Grisham and Tom Clancy. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, boating and riding his bike on the beach. In 1961 he married the love of his life, Jeanne J. Oursler.
While in Atlanta, he and Jeanne were members of the Roswell United Methodist Church. He was a member of what was called the "Holy Rollers Group", which was a group of volunteers that were responsible for painting and touching up the interior of the church. He was part of several missionary trips to Mexico to assist in the building of churches in small villages where no church existed.
Dave is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Donald and Lawrence and sister Gloria.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Jeanne and son Dave (Pam) Oursler Jr.; grandchildren Trey Oursler, Kevin (Taylor) Oursler, Michael (Amy) Hunter; great grandchildren Chelsea (Ron) Britzius, Kyler Hunter, Kaden Hunter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dave was a member of Palms Presbyterian Church, located at 3410 Third Street South, Jacksonville Beach, FL. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the church on Friday, October 27, 2023. Visitation will commence at 10 a.m., Service at 11 a.m. followed by a reception in Patten Hall.
Dave will be long remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that a donation be made in his name to a charitable organization of your choice. Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, Jacksonville Beach, is serving the family.
