Shirley was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 24, 1944.
She graduated from Rockville High School in 1962. Here she met her high school sweetheart, Ronnie Buday. They married in 1964 and had two daughters. In 1970, they relocated to South Florida. After the loss of her husband, she moved to Jacksonville to be closer to her daughters.
Shirley loved all things involving family and friends. She was compassionate, generous, a great listener and made everyone feel welcomed. She loved flowers and working in the yard and found peace watching the rain.
Shirley was an intelligent woman and was infamous for playing a mean game of Scrabble.
She enjoyed listening to music. She loved Elvis Presley and John Denver. Her favorite song was Unchained Melodies because it was her and Ronnie’s song.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses: Michele and Erich Fleming, and Pamela Buday and Steve Starke; granddaughter, Brianna Fleming; sister and husband, Debbie and Pat Carraro and their children, Chad and Brittany; brother and wife, Jim and Joanna Cantwell and their children, Jennifer, Matthew, Brooke, and Tyler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Buday; her parents Eleanor and Bill Cantwell and Joseph Burns; her Aunt Shirley and Uncle Bob.
Shirley's family will be receiving friends on Saturday August 3, 2019 from 2-3pm at Beaches Chapel by Hardage-Giddens 1701 Beach Blvd Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250. Her memorial service will immediately follow at 3pm in the chapel, officiated by Pastor Tom Bary. A gathering will be held at her daughter Pam's house after services at the funeral home.
