Continued: He was warm, outgoing, loving, had an infectious smile, and could give you a quite a hug. And he was like all of us, an imperfect human being who tried to do the right things. He struggled with his sobriety for the last few years, but he always knew the difference between right and wrong. And he has left us with a big hole in our lives, but he also left us with many good memories. I will cherish and hold on to those memories for the rest of my life.
We have all been touched by Sean in some way. I will always remember how he would tell me he loved me when we talked on the phone or when he said goodbye. And he genuinely meant it. That has been a great comfort to me theses last few days. Parents never miss an opportunity to tell your children you love them. Their life is a gift from God to us and we need to remember that each day. 


Last weekend we experienced a terrible loss in our community of the young people in whom we place our hope for the future. High school students at a Raines football game, a high school senior from Bishop Kenny, young men at a video game competition, and my son, Sean all lost their lives in different ways. There are many people in our community right now hurting deeply at the loss of their children much too soon and well before their time. Please pray for them. 
Words that describe what people feel when a loved one is lost, grief stricken, inconsolable, broken hearted, were just words to me. We are living these words today. I feel a great compassion towards those friends, families, and parents who lost their children as I know exactly how they feel. We seek comfort and consolation from the same friends and family to get us through this. I could never prepare for this and cannot imagine any greater sadness. My life has changed. No parent should ever outlive their children. 
Let me tell you a little about Sean. He loved the Jaguars. He could tell you where a player went to school, what team he may have come from, and how good, in his opinion, that player was. I don’t know how many Jag hats and shirts he had but there were quite a few. He loved to eat his mother’s game day wings, cheese dip, and whatever else she made. It was always great food. He liked to fish, was quite a skateboarder, a daredevil on a snowboard, and love to go boating with us. We built skateboard ramps, grinding rails and he spent hours practicing. He grew up playing soccer and baseball and had many good friends. He played the saxophone. He loved his dogs Sunshine and Bandit. He has a beautiful daughter, Emma Lynn, who started kindergarten this year. He loved her in a way only a father can. His sister Catie was his best friend growing up. He gave her quite a haircut once. His brother Pat always looked up to him. He loved his mother dearly, called her Momma Bear. 

Dear Caren and Mike,
I am so sorry to hear about Sean :-(  You both must feel like you are dying inside. Losing a child is just the worst thing that I could imagine that could happen to any parent. I remember when you brought Sean to my wedding to Tom. It was 1989 and he was not even a year old yet.  Sean was an adorable baby and a very handsome man!

Meeting you, chillin' with Richie, so many years ago... I had to remind myself that I had a boyfriend, no matter how gorgeous you were. LOL. And the next handful of times, I did the same and reminded myself that you were way too young,. LOL. Your eyes and smile are one thing... the friend you became to Richie and myself when I visited town...showed your HEART was so much more. Listening to you talk about your family, your daughter, your daughters mom...always with smiles, and hoping for the best. Your fun and smile is unforgettable! Long nights just talking about everything under the sun and going to cruise and check out the trouble on 3rd... just fun...seriously good times. My prayers are for your parents, siblings, daughter and her mom, and all of the friends that love you to know that you're surely in the most peaceful place. I believe God creates all of us in His plan, and opens his Home in Heaven to each and every good soul. You're such a good heart...so I know you're safe and smiling down on everyone already. Please wrap your angel wings around them to remind them you're close...and especially my best friend Richie, who cherished your friendship so much. <3 Smiles. Eyes.
