I was sorry to hear about Opie's passing.  I was a friend of his way back in the early 1980's when we work together in the same AE shop in Key West.  My best wishes and prayers go out to his entire family.  Butch Smith (Jacksonville, FL.)

I first met Opie on instructor duty in VAW 33 FRAMP Key West.  He was an awesome instructor, masterful "AE" and a great sailor.  He was a super patriot that loved his country, his Navy and most of all, his family.  I am honored to have been his shipmate and friend.

I knew Harold as a child as we were cousins.  I loved to visit his Grandmother, my Aunt Allie, and play with Harold and his brother Woody. He grew up into such a fine young man and it was a pleasure to see him over the years.  I am sorry for his family that his life has been shortened but I trust that God will be with you to comfort and ease your pain.

So sorry to learn of Opie's passing. I didn't know Opie while in the Navy, but met him when after I retired and began working at Sikorsky in Jax. He was always the life of the party! If you were having a bad day he'd always put a smile on your face and lift you up. His legacy will live on in all of the lives he has touched throughout the years he spent with us. Fair Winds and Following Seas my friend. We'll see you again in the heavenly Mess. Godspeed!

I met Opie when he still was active duty and then worked with him at Sikorsky.  You will be sadly missed my friend.  I ask God to watch over your family.

I was already at another service for a Legion friend. Knew OPIE as a sailor when we used to ask him if he had to ask the CHIEF for permission when he was home. Also worked together on the MAYPORT SILORSKY MOD.TEAM. R.I.P. CHIEF

JC Connor is my uncle and has said what a great man Opie was so with a heavy heart I send a note of thanks for his service and my deepest, most sincere sympathies. Many prayers for your family during such a tragic time.

Will always be remembered as "one of the good guys".

I will forever remember Opie inviting me to a overnite party in Sigonella after returning from the states after getting custody of my two young kids. He kept me sane during the 6 month deployment. He had us busting a gut all day long at AIMD, which help me immensely. He became a coworker at Sikorsky and a true friend for life. May GOD Bless him and his beautiful loving family and may he watch over them and "us" until we meet again. Thanks Chief for all you did, you will never be forgotten!!!

Opie will be missed, so glad we were able to get together a few years ago at your house. Hold on to the memories. Hugs & prayers to Bev, Sam & William.

Opie will be missed beyond words. He always made you laugh at anything and everything. My heart is with Sammy and her family as well as all my thoughts and prayers. Your father was a great man who cares so much about his little girl!

My heart aches for the loss of Harold.  I remember when he was born in Lumberton.  I was attending business school and was able to see he quite often.  During our adult years, getting together became difficult due to careers and distances.  I did and do love you.
