Robert Joseph Gonzalez

Robert J. Gonzalez (Bob) of Atlantic Beach, Fla. passed away on August 1, 2013. He was born in New York City on February 14, 1931 and was the oldest of seven children. In addition to being a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was an active member of Oak Harbor Baptist Church in Atlantic Beach where he served the church with his various talents. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. He proudly served his country during the Korean and the Vietnam wars. After retiring from the Navy he pursued a career with Prudential Life Insurance where he retired after 20 years. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Barbara H. Gonzalez.

Survivors include his sons Steve (Melanie), David (Paula), daughters Linda Remsen and Angela Pratt (James) and his loyal canine companion Booger. Mr. Gonzalez was proud to have 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors from 2:00 – 3:00 pm Saturday, August 3rd at Oak Harbor Baptist Church, 2765 State Road A1A, Atlantic Beach with service to follow at 3:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow at 4:00pm at Beaches Memorial Park Cemetery, 1500 Main St., Atlantic Beach, Florida. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society.
