Richie was born March 9, 1961 at Tachikawa Air Force Base, Japan to David Aggie and Carol Naomi Smith. Richie served in the United States Air Force for 26.5 years retiring as a Senior Master Sargent in 2011. He earned his Bachelors degree from Troy University and his masters from Embry Riddle and was currently employed by the U.S Navy- Strategic Weapons Facility Atlantic at the Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, Georgia. He is survived by his treasured wife Kymberly, his adored children Craig Smith and Julie (Mike) Sanborn, his three cherished granddaughters, Brooke, Lexie and Kirra Sanborn, his brother David (Bea) Smith, and his sisters, Nancy Lou (Keith) Hill and Sherry (Richard) Carter as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
Richie and Kymberly shared a special love and lived every day to the fullest., He loved Elvis, The Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, hunting with his brother, softball and golf, drinking beer with his buddies, stockpiling Grolsch and Bitburger and enjoying wonderful wines with friends.
Everyone that knew Richie LOVED Richie. He was the one you wanted to spend your time with. He was the one you wanted at your party. What made Richie so special?…was it his authenticity, generosity, or his thoughtfulness? Richie was always 100% Richie. He was always willing to invite you to his home, grill for you and share his wine with you. He was the guy who would send you a random text just to mess with you about something silly that made him think of you.
Maybe people saw in him what they desired to see in themselves, someone who truly unapologetically lived life. Be authentic, Be generous, Be thoughtful. Live life like Richie.
And always remember, tell the ones you love, you love them everyday. Life can change in an instant.
