After these several years, I still think of Peter, as I was fond of calling him, often. Though my original remarks 5 years ago best illustrate my remembrance of him, I did not mention how he could recite from memory and with dramatic effect, lengthy poems and lengthy swaths of the Shakespeare. Did I mention his fondness for ribald ditties and stories. He was so full of life and made all around him joyful and entertained. He is the most one of a kind person I have ever encountered all these many years. 

On behalf of the members of the USS Tutuila ARG-4 Association we wish you “Fair seas and Following winds.” And a salute to a well respected shipmate who has served his Country and life with pride and dignity.

Pat, I was saddened to hear about Pete's passing, but I am glad that he is no longer suffering.  Pete was a tremendous influence on me in both my military and my legal career.  Few people were so willing to help others as Pete was willing to help me, and countless others, in our careers and in our lives.  No one could tell a story or liven up a room the way Pete could!  He is missed, and I wish you well in this difficult time.

I was very sorry to learn of Pete's passing. I remember the many good times we had while serving as assistant prosecutors, and later when we visited in Jacksonville. I extend sincere condolences to Pat and family. Goodbye Pete. You were one of a kind.

Dear Patricia and families,

I was so very sorry to hear of Pete's passing. I had hoped to look him up if we ever were in Jacksonville, but unfortunately, that never happened. Pete and I grew up together in the north end of Springfield, and along with a couple of other kids, enjoyed spending our childhood together. Who would have thought that a couple of ornery rascals like us would both grow up in the law profession; Pete as an Attorney and Judge, and me as a Police Sergeant here in Springfield. 


Although we may not be able to be with you during this sorrowful time, rest assured that we'll be with you in spirit.

I was so saddened to hear of Peter's passing.  We met as prosecutors in Columbus Ohio in the 70s and socialized as couples from time to time playing Dungeons & Dragons.  Peter was the star of my 'Roasting" when I left Columbus for the NLRB in Indy.  In the early 80s Pete and I attended a two week course of instruction at the Army's Judge Advocate General's School in Charlottesville Virginia and had an incredible time.  On one weekend I met one of his Navy buds and between them I still remain in awe of their intellect and originality.  Pete and I remained in touch in the following years. On occasion Deb and I would see Peter and Patty at one of the reenactments they so enjoyed. After my layoff from the corporate world in the early 90's it was Peter who suggested I look at applying as a Federal Administrative Law Judge.  I truly don't know where I would be had I not followed up on his guidance.  We did manage to see Pete and Patty during the Swift Boat times when they came to Dallas for a conference involving Stolen Valor.  It was so good to see him and admire his strength in his struggles with his cruel illnesses.  I always envied Pete's intellect, his skill with language, his creativity and the joy he found in spending time with others.  He was a true and complete original.  I have always cherished the times I spent with Peter.  And Patty, there is no doubt you were the love of his life.

Pete was a unique and special man who was my friend from childhood (fourth grade) on...  We grew up together, six houses apart in Springfield, Ohio.  He was intellectually brilliant, patriotic and well principled. His life was a constant challenge that he met and lived to it's fullest. He was a classic example of one who persevered despite the challenges and hardships he faced.  I treasure his part in my life and will never forget him and the values and times we shared...

I still kept Pete in my address book although I knew he was ill and couldn't respond to my email. Prior to his illness he would keep me informed and up to date on supreme court news and the score board of the new court  selectees, mainly the good , bad and ugly.

We sailors from the USS Tutuila mourn the passing of a shipmate, but remember fondly our time together in the early 70's.  I remember that Pete took me under his wing when I reported for duty and oriented me to life aboard ship.  I shall miss our Email chats laughing about old times.  Rest in comfort, Pete.

I have known Pete since he joined Post 6 as a young man of 14 years of age. It has been a pleasure to have him as a friend. We reconnected after I became the Advisor of the Post he loved so well. I am sadden at his loss, but know he is in a better place, that we all hope to arive. My prayers go Pat and his family. He will always be in my heart.

I am saddened to hear the news that Pete has passed away.  We reconnected several years ago and I truly enjoyed our email correspondence especially during election times!!  I had met Pete during our college years and with the turbulance of the Vietnam War lost track of him until he and Pat located me through my mother.  Rest in peace, Pete, you will always be a part of my past.

Pete will be missed.  He and I communicated for many years about many subjects. But the most fondest of memories we shared will always be the years we spent in Explorer Post 6.  Pete loved that post and its memories more than anyone I knew.  It was the experiences and challenges that the leaders put upon all of us as members that made us the adults we are today.
