The son of Zita and Fredrick Garfield, Neil is also greatly missed by his brother Gary and all his friends, co-workers, clients and readers from across the country over his 76 years.
Neil was known for living many places but also living many lives as he was an accomplished lawyer, a prolific writer, a savvy businessman, a popular radio personality, a trusted foreclosure defense expert, and a talented musician.
Neil started his professional career on Wall Street in 1968 while pursuing his master’s degree at Iona College. After graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1974, Neil then changed careers and moved his family to pursue law school at Nova Southeastern University in Ft Lauderdale, Florida. Upon graduation and completion of the Florida Bar in 1977, Neil focused his law practice on trial law related to business, corporations, and real estate.
In addition to managing a law practice, Neil led multiple technology and financial companies including American Bank Card, the largest processor of ATM/POS transitions in the US between 1994-2012.
During his career, Neil published numerous articles on law and business, taught courses at Iona College and Broward Community College, developed CLE courses and authored workbooks for attorneys. In addition, Neil hosted various call-in radio shows over the years, including his most recent “The Neil Garfield Show” found on www.blogtalkradio.com.
In 2008 Neil founded the Living Lies Garfield Firm Blog https://livinglies.me/ as a semi-retirement project. This side project quickly became popular in the legal community as the leading resource for assisting foreclosure defense, hosting over 17 million visitors over the past 15 years. In support of the blog, Neil authored articles, forms, and workbooks to help countless homeowners to save their homes.
In his free time, Neil loved to travel and appreciated the fine arts but especially loved music and was a gifted pianist. But the thing that Neil loved most, and that most defined him, was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and grand-dog Zoe. His contagious laughter, sharp wit, and shrewd mind combined with his penchant for gags and his propensity for hugs is already a family legend.
