Marjorie M. Baer, 91, went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband on January 22, 2013. Marjorie (Marge) was born in Harbour Island, Bahamas on July 22, 1921 to Charles and Mary Alice Pettee. Her family moved to Nassau, Bahamas where she attended Catholic schools through her graduation from high school. After her graduation, Marge became a telephone operator for the phone company in Nassau. During this time, she met her future husband, Roy Baer Jr., who was in the Army, stationed in the Bahamas. They were married, moved to the United States, and raised a family.
Growing up in the Bahamas, Marge developed a love of the ocean which continued throughout her life. She enjoyed playing golf with her husband and friends and was a longtime member of the Ladies Golf Association at the Dunes and Baymeadows golf courses. Marge especially enjoyed the numerous trips she and Roy took with their friends to socialize and play different golf courses. She was an avid Florida Gators fan and attended many games with family and friends. She grew to love baseball, watching her two sons play and became a big Atlanta Braves fan. Her greatest love was being a wife, mother and grandmother to her family.
Marge was a longtime member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. For the past 10 years, she and Roy were members of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Marge is predeceased by her parents, sisters Nelda and Keva, brother Ken and the love of her life, her husband of 67 years Roy. She is survived by her sons, Charles "Yogi" (Donnell) and Doug (Laura); her grandchildren, Ken (Bridget), Mike, Douglas Jr., Havey and Chris; and her great-grandsons Chase and Logan.
A memorial mass will be held at 11am Saturday, January 26 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9800 Baymeadows Rd. Jacksonville, FL 32256 with Msgr. Mortimer Danaher presiding.
