March 21, 1961 – April 4, 2025
Husband. Father. Pepaw. Brother. Uncle. Friend.
Kirk Allen Granfors, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished pepaw, beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend, entered the Kingdom of God alongside his devoted wife of 36 years, Kathy Brantley Granfors, on April 4, 2025. Kirk was born in Michigan but made Jacksonville, Florida his home and the place where he built a life grounded in hard work, faith, and family. A proud and tireless man, Kirk spent most of his career in civil construction, providing for his family with dedication and grit. He was a die-hard Florida State Seminoles fan, and NASCAR racing ran through his veins. Come football season or race day, you knew where to find him — cheering with passion and pride. Kirk was a true provider and a man of deep faith, tough as nails on the outside but with a soft and giving heart. He stepped into the role of father figure to Michael, Jeffrey, and Sarah with grace and love, always honoring his place as their bonus dad. Nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren. Becoming Pepaw was one of his greatest honors, and we watched with love and laughter as the tough guy melted into the softest version of himself. He would do anything for his six beloved grandkids — Kinsey, Kylee, Miles, Andrew, Zachary, and Reagan — and they will carry his love with them forever. Kirk is survived by his children: Michael (Erin) Thomason, Jeffrey (Kimberly) Winterling, and Sarah (Daniel) Denton; his cherished siblings: Kelley, Kevin, Kraig Granfors and Dennis Snider; and his adored nieces and nephews: Nathan, Kayla, Kendra, Brandon, Jenna, and the late Erica; Aaron, Shelly, Josh, Justin, Ben and Carter; along with countless cousins, lifelong friends, and colleagues who were touched by his generosity and spirit. To know Kirk was to know someone who would give you the shirt off his back, no questions asked. His absence will be deeply felt by all who were lucky enough to be part of his world. Football season will never be the same without him — but his voice, his laughter, and his love will echo through every kickoff. GO NOLES! Rest easy, Kirk. We’ll carry you with us, always.
