I was fortunate enough to have Joe as my uncle and have many fond memories of him such as riding go karts and dirt bikes, fishing, listening to his stories, playing on his property, cooking seafood, and searching out the best NASCAR merch. One memory that sticks out is when the Lewis family came up to Cartersville to spend Christmas with us. After sitting in the house for a couple of days, Joe decided that he wanted to go for a ride and asked if anyone else did too. I volunteered to tag along not knowing what I was getting myself into. We drove down country roads for hours just looking around and making conversation when we could. The teenager in me wanted to get back to my video games but deep down I knew it was way more important to enjoy this one-on-one time I got to spend with him. During those hours in the car, I saw Joe’s curiosity in life and his adventurous side. He would comment on anything interesting we drove by, and we even stopped a few times to check out some country stores. I’ll always remember the time I spent with Joe fondly and appreciate his ability to enjoy the scenic route in life. 

We first met in 1993 via Richard Brown when you and Joe were gracious enough to allow us to store our boat at your place until we were able to secure a marina location. Since then, we have met generally at Richard & Anne over the years for parties or whatever. Joe always had thta smile and lots to say about everything.

To Judy, your Sons and Family members we extend our condolences to you all.

Chuck and Joe were often up to no good at JBFD! This picture was taken right before the “great chicken caper”. I remember so many cookouts and family gatherings. I also remember the times Joe would call in the middle of the night asking Chuck to help on a dive job. We all watched our kids grow up and now their kids. You will me missed Joe and never forgotten. I know you are already pulling pranks on the guys in Heaven! 


I was lucky enough to be hired by Joe as my Captain. Later he was promoted to fire Chief: one of the best things about working for him was that you knew he was a fireman’s fireman! That he knew how to treat his crew, the public and the scene. He was a good fireman, Fire Chief and family man: he will surely be missed, but not forgotten. Thank you sir for your service, leadership, and be a great mentor. Rest easy sir. Prayers for comfort to family and friends.


Joe worked with my Dad at Underwater Construction Company for many years as a diver building and connecting cofferdams to our prized navel vessels at Mayport NAS and fixing them under dangerous conditions that thankfully are better managed now.. There was a team and I can only remember Joe and another fella we called "gorgeous George" but I found the most wonderful people in Joe, Judy and Renee. While this was in the 70s the fondness never wavered as we connected over the years. My sweet friends I offer my prayers of peace and my unwavering love for all of you.

We are so sorry for your loss. We always enjoyed visiting and our kids remember playing at the house! Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.

To the entire Lewis family - my thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time. I didn’t know Joe but I have known Judy, Susan, Randy and Renee for a long time. My heart breaks for all of you. May all your memories of Joe give you some peace during the upcoming days and years ahead. 



My sincere condolences go out to the Lewis family.  I have many great memories of Joe during my time at JBFD, and I learned a lot about being a firefighter from him. May God’s grace be with you and your loved ones.
