Janice Clopton Patterson-McIvor 89, of Jacksonville Beach, Florida entered the gates of Heaven, joining her twin sister, on Thursday, March 11, 2021 surrounded by her Devoted Family. Jan was an extraordinary lady who’s smile and sweet spirit lit up any room she walked into. The “Infectious” Joy to which “Gran Jan” lives her life will forever be the bond that will continue for generations.
Jan was born in Murray, Kentucky to Mr. & Mrs. Willie Dale Clopton on September 12, 1931. While still in High School Jan married her childhood sweetheart, John McIvor. After a few years they divorced when John joined the Navy. Jan then decided to move to Tennessee and start work in the corporate world. Jan was a very smart business woman and moved to Atlanta Georgia and opened her own business at a time when Women did not own businesses.
She owned and operated Clopton Typography & Graphics Inc. in midtown Atlanta until she later sold it to her dearest friend Audrey Williams. It was in Atlanta that she married her second love, James R Patterson in 1971, to whom she was married for 36 years until his death in 2007. She then re connected with her first love, “Jono” and they were married in February of 2008 until his death in 2011. Jan had the Great Privilege of spending her life with her two greatest loves.
Jan loved golfing, traveling, playing dominoes, the beach, birds, dogs and her friends and family and especially loved her Sunday school class at Sweetwater Baptist Church in Apopka, Florida and most recently her Beloved Roggio Life Group at Chet’s Creek Church. She served in many volunteer organizations throughout her life and most recently volunteering at The Gabriel House.
Jan is pre-deceased by her husband James R Patterson and her Husband John W. McIvor, Her Parents Willie & Ruth Clopton, her Brother, Christopher Clopton and her twin sister Anice Clopton. She is Survived by her 7 Beloved Step Children, James R Patterson, Jr.(Vanessa) of Woodstock GA, Carol Kimsey of Macon, GA, Dr. Steven Patterson of Minneapolis, MN, Michael Patterson of Atlanta, GA, Beth Kernan(Mark), Jenny Sanders-McFate(Rodney) and John C. McIvor(Tammy) all of Jacksonville Beach, Florida. 18 Grandchildren and her most Beloved 15 Great Grandchildren. She leaves behind her Most Loved and Treasured companion, “Binky” and many many Dear Friends and Extended Family members that she loved with all of her heart.
The Funeral Services and Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Chet’s Creek Church 4420 Hodges Blvd Jacksonville, Florida 32224 with the Rev. Spike Hogan officiating. In lieu of flowers the Family requests that donations be made to the Chet’s Creek Church Building Fund in the honor of Jan Patterson-McIvor. We would also like to say a Heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Sarfaraz Dhanji, M.D. who not only took care of her for so many years but who became a close friend who loved her deeply.
