She was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 17, 1948, the daughter of Carris F. and Dorthea (Bryant) Marmie. Deborah graduated from Walnut Ridge High School, Class of 1966. Following graduation, she served in the U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Florida during the Vietnam War. After her enlistment, she transferred to the Active Naval Reserves for many years while she completed her Licensed Practical Nurse, and bachelor’s in nursing. She enjoyed a successful career in nursing for over forty years, mainly in the field of psychiatric nursing, as well as working later in her career as a travel nurse supporting various correctional facilities throughout the country.
She was an active member of Fort Caroline Baptist Church for many years. The single most important detail of her life she would want to be remembered for was her love of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Deborah also wanted to be remembered for her love of her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Richard L. Marmie and Robert T. Marmie, as well as her beloved sister, Susan C. Hundley with whom she travelled the U.S. and enjoyed many adventures with including skydiving in their 70’s.
She is survived by her sons, Robert T. Starwalt and Leland R. McKeever II, niece, Kathryn A. Rice, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be held for family at a later date in Columbus, Ohio. Those who wish to remember Deborah in a special way may make gifts in her memory to any charitable foundation that supports first responders and/or veterans.
