David was born in Jacksonville, FL on May 29th, 1931 and was a graduate of the Class of 1949 at Lee High School. He attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship.
David proudly served in the United States Marine Corp for 3 years during the Korean Conflict, and then he and his brother began farming in the Mandarin area before moving their business (Jones Brother’s Farm) to Elkton located in St. Johns County. Later, David expanded his farming business to the west coast of Florida, and was consider an agricultural leader in the State of Florida. His farms included Riverdale Potato Farm (Elkton, FL) and Jones Potato Farm (Parrish, FL)
David was an avid golfer at the former Ponce De Leon Golf Club and more recently at St. Augustine Shores Golf Club. David was also a prolific reader and had a great appreciate for music and the arts. He will always be remembered for his entrepreneurial spirit and his love of his family and friends.
David was pre-deceased by his parents Pren Jones and Blanche Parker(Carl – Step Father) and his brother Harold Jones. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean B. Jones;David E. Jones, 86, of St. Augustine passed away October 5, 2017 in St. Augustine at his home.

Jones; his three children Richard, Barbara, and Alan; daughter-in-law Leslie Jones, son-in-law Steve Fleming and Georgia Cheshire; 8 grandchildren Aaryn Frick, Bryan Jones, David, Douglas, and, Davis Fleming, Madeline, Harrison and Carson Jones; 3 grand-children in law’s Burton Jones, Brandon Frick, Elizabeth Fleming and 5 great grandchildren Carter and Cameron Jones, Nathan and Levi Frick and Olivia Fleming. His sister, Doris Owens of Orange Park, FL and numerous nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Riverside Memorial Park located at 7242 Normandy BLVD, Jacksonville, FL 32205.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Community Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Augustine 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257 or a charity of your choice.
