Charlie (Rod) graduated from Buxted High School in England and shortly after enlisted in the US Army where he served in France and Germany in World War II, some of his proudest moments. Upon his Honorable Discharge he completed his education at Manchester School of Art earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Design.
He became a renowned and dynamic Window Display Creator having crowds travel from miles around every Christmas to see his unique creations. After moving back to the United States in the late 50’s, he embarked on a successful career working as a civilian contractor for the US Navy which gave birth to several businesses later in his life.
In 1991 he married Grace Adeeb Meyer with whom he spent the next 30 years with being the Ying to her Yang. He cared for her like a china doll and spent these years traveling the world together and creating a loving environment for family and friends alike.
He is survived by 3 children, Maxine McDonnell (Patrick) of England, Gillian Candice Jacques of England and Janice Meyer Anderson (Harry) of Scotland as well as 5 step children, Charles Philip Mills (Sandy) of Melbourne Beach, Fl, James Woodrow (Woody) Mills (Ellen) of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fl Sheron Mills of California, Gay Hess of Jacksonville, FL and Derek Hess (Bunny) of Jacksonville, FL. He had 5 Grand Children and 4 great grand children in the UK.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 on Friday June 28th 2024 at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home (Beaches Chapel).
