She was born on January 20, 1930 in Jackson, the daughter of the late J.W. “Bud” King and Eva Fortune King. The second of eight sisters, she learned early the importance of family and maintained her dedication and focus on family throughout her life. Nell spent her working career in the service of others as a Registered Nurse. She was also a member of Malesus United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six of her sisters and her husband of 56 years, Charles Eugene “Gene” Allen.
She is survived by three sons, Charles R. "Chuck" Allen of Memphis and Jeff Allen and Mark Allen both of Jackson; four grandchildren, Jesse Allen of Fort Drum, NY, Michelle Wilson of Henderson, Samantha Standerfer of Temple, TX, and Jacob Allen of Jackson; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 5-7 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, July 30, 2021 at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with Rev. Travis Penney of Malesus United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens.
